Can’t Wait Wednesday: 31st May, 2017

Can’t Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings and spotlights upcoming releases.

For fans of Joe Abercrombie, Scott Lynch, and Mark Lawrence comes a brutal grimdark fantasy debut of dark gods and violent warriors.

The Mireces worship the bloodthirsty Red Gods. Exiled from Rilpor a thousand years ago, and left to suffer a harsh life in the cold mountains, a new Mireces king now plots an invasion of Rilpor’s thriving cities and fertile earth.

Dom Templeson is a Watcher, a civilian warrior guarding Rilpor’s border. He is also the most powerful seer in generations, plagued with visions and prophecies. His people are devoted followers of the god of light and life, but Dom harbors deep secrets, which threaten to be exposed when Rillirin, an escaped Mireces slave, stumbles broken and bleeding into his village.

Meanwhile, more and more of Rilpor’s most powerful figures are turning to the dark rituals and bloody sacrifices of the Red Gods, including the prince, who plots to wrest the throne from his dying father in the heart of the kingdom. Can Rillirin, with her inside knowledge of the Red Gods and her shocking ties to the Mireces King, help Rilpor win the coming war?

 Why I Can’t Wait:

Godblind is the Goldsboro Book of the Month and sounds amazing. I’ve heard this is quite a dark fantasy and very violent, so that might put other readers off. It’s the first in a trilogy so I really hope there’s not a huge cliffhanger as I hate that.

An exclusive, signed edition with sprayed black edges is available from Goldsboro.

Release Date: 15/06/17

(Available 01/06/17 via Goldsboro)

 About the Author

Anna Stephens is a UK-based author of gritty epic fantasy. Her debut novel, Godblind, is published through Harper Voyager in June 2017, with the sequels coming in 2018 and 2019.

Anna has a BA (Hons) in Literature from the Open University and has wanted to be a writer for as long as she can remember. She much prefers the worlds she makes up to the real thing, even if most of her characters meet sticky ends.

Anna lives with her husband, a huge book, music and movie collection, and no pets. She intends to remedy this lack of furry friends as soon as fame and fortune strike.

Goldsboro choose the BOTM so they can be hit and miss. I’m a bit worried that this one will have too much violence against women though, as I hate that.

Wow, amazing cover! Not sure if dark fantasy is my cup of tea — or to be accurate, I’d have to read a review of how dark it is before I’d venture into this one.
