Mid-Year Freak Out Book Tag

I’ve seen the Mid-Year Freak Out book tag on a few blogs recently (check out The Bibliophile Girl for a great post) so decided to give it a go. It seems incredible that we’re already into the second half of 2017 so let’s make the most of it!

What is the best book that you’ve read so far in 2017?

I’m cheating already and choosing two! A friend from Litsy bought me ACOTAR and ACOMAF by Sarah J. Maas and I fell head-over-heels in love with the series. ACOMAF has become one of my favourite books and is responsible for my undying love for Rhysand.

THUG by Angie Thomas is one of those books you end up recommending to everyone. It has such relevance for contemporary society and I honestly think it should be compulsory reading at school.

What has been your favourite sequel of the first half of the year?

Traitor to the Throne by Alwyn Hamilton

Since I chose ACOMAF for the previous question, I’ve gone with Traitor to the Throne by Alwyn Hamilton for this one. I was surprised by how much I loved Rebel of the Sands so I couldn’t wait to read the sequel. It was even better than the first book and definitely avoided the dreaded middle book slump.

Is there a new release that you haven’t read yet but you’re really excited for?

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

I’ve had Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor on my TBR pile since it was released in March. I even bought the signed edition from Goldsboro Books as I was so sure I would love it. Yet it’s been sitting on my TBR pile without any sign of moving – and by TBR pile, I mean TBR bookcase. I really need to stop buying books so I can read the ones I already have.

What is your most anticipated release for the second half of the year?

The Good Daughter by Karin Slaughter Book Cover

Wonder Woman by Leigh BardugoAll the Crooked Saints by Maggie Stiefvater

There are so many books I have pre-ordered for the second half of the year but these three are definitely the ones I’m most looking forward to. Anything by Karin Slaughter is an auto-buy for me as I just love her books. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Wonder Woman so I couldn’t resist pre-ordering it. Maggie Stiefvater is one of my favourite authors so All the Crooked Saints was ordered as soon as it was announced.

What is your biggest disappointment so far?

The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

I’ve been hearing about Cinder by Marissa Meyer for months now and everyone seemed to rave about how good it was. But I was so disappointed with the first book. It did improve but it’s definitely not one of my favourite series.

What is your biggest surprise so far?

Folio Society Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

This was a literal surprise but a friend sent me the Folio Society edition of Pride and Prejudice. It is absolutely stunning! Now I just need the rest of the Folio Society Austen editions…

Who is your favourite new to you, or debut, author?

As you’ve probably guessed, Sarah J. Maas is my favourite new to me author! My favourite debut author of this year has to be Sandhya Menon for the super adorable When Dimple Met Rishi.

Who is your favourite fictional crush from this year?

Feyre and Rhysand

Rhysand is everything! He might actually be the perfect book boyfriend. As you can see, I even made a custom Rhys funko to feed my obsession.

Who is your new favourite character?

Crown of Midnight by Sarah J Maas Book Cover

My current favourite character is Aelin Ashryver Galathynius. I’m onto Empire of Storms and completely in love with this world and the amazing Aelin.

A book that made you cry?

I haven’t cried at a book this year! Any recommendations?

A book that made you happy?

When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon

The adorable YA romance When Dimple Met Rishi made me smile throughout. Dimple and Rishi are two of my new favourite characters.

Your favourite book to movie/ TV show that you’ve seen so far?

Fantastic Beasts by J.K. Rowling Beauty and the Beast Book

There are not many adaptations that surpass the book but these two definitely did. I didn’t get the chance to see Fantastic Beasts at the cinema so I only saw it for the first time when the DVD was released. It was so much better than I expected. I saw Beauty and the Beast at the cinema and it was beautiful. I loved Emma Watson as Belle and the soundtrack was perfect.

What is your favourite post that you’ve written so far this year?

I’ve only been going for a few months but I love writing review posts. The other post I loved writing was about my favourite books of the year so far.

Check it out here: Best Books of the Year (So Far)

What is the most beautiful book that you have bought?

The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden

Feast your eyes on the gorgeousness that is this cover! I can’t wait to see the cover for The Girl in the Tower. I really hope it’s as beautiful as this one.

What are 6 books that you want to read by the end of the year?

Continuing my YA kick, these are the books I’m hoping to read by the end of the year. They’ve all been recommended by so many people that I can’t wait to start reading them.

I’ve had so much fun with this book tag that I’ll definitely be doing more in the future. If you want to do it too, consider yourself tagged!
