Mid-Year Freak Out Book Tag

It’s that time of the year when every blogger seems to be participating in the mid-year freak out book tag and I’m no different. So here we go…

What is the best book that you’ve read so far in 2017?

Circe by Madeline Miller

I’ve read some amazing books this year but Circe by Madeline Miller was phenomenal. The Song of Achilles is one of my favourite books and I think this was even better.

What has been your favourite sequel of the first half of the year?

Morning Star by Pierce Brown

I became addicted to the Red Rising series by Pierce Brown so Morning Star was one of my favourite sequels of the year.

Is there a new release that you haven’t read yet but you’re really excited for?

I usually love the books chosen by Fairyloot so I’m eager to read Onyx & Ivory by Mindee Arnett. Although, I’ve heard there’s a huge cliffhanger and that always puts me off.

What is your most anticipated release for the second half of the year?

Stranger the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

I have to say Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor. Strange the Dreamer was one of my favourite reads of 2017 and I need more Lazlo and Sarai.

What is your biggest disappointment so far?

Nothing has really disappointed me this year, thankfully. I think I’m becoming better able to choose what books I’m going to enjoy and therefore avoid awful books.

What is your biggest surprise so far?

The Illuminae Files by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

My biggest surprise has been how much I loved the Illuminae Files by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. I had a huge book hangover after finishing the series.

Who is your favourite new to you, or debut, author?

A favourite new to me author is Pierce Brown and one of the best debut authors I read was Tomi Adeyemi. I loved both of these authors and can’t wait to read what they write next.

Who is your favourite fictional crush from this year?

Three of my fictional crushes are Nik from Gemina, Riden from Daughter of the Siren Queen, and From Twinkle, With Love‘s Sahil.

Who is your new favourite character?

Furyborn by Claire Legrand

My most recent favourite character was Eliana from Furyborn by Claire Legrand. I loved how unlikeable she was at times – she reminded me of Aelin from Throne of Glass.

A book that made you cry?

Hero at the Fall by Alwyn Hamilton

Alwyn Hamilton certainly knows how to write emotional scenes. Hero at the Fall featured the death of a character I loved and the description was heartbreaking.

A book that made you happy?

My Lady Jane

My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows was such fun. It was witty and hilarious and had me smiling throughout.

Your favourite book to movie/ TV show that you’ve seen so far?

I haven’t actually watched a lot of adaptations this year but I enjoyed The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. The cast was fantastic and the adaptation retained the spirit of the book but  I was disappointed with the extent of the changes made to the plot.

What is your favourite post that you’ve written so far this year?

Neverland Peter Pan

I really enjoyed writing my fictional bucket list which you can read here.

What is the most beautiful book that you have bought?

The Toymakers by Robert Dinsdale

One of the most beautiful books I bought was The Toymakers by Robert Dinsdale. What’s even better is that the inside is as wonderful as the outside.

What are 6 books that you want to read by the end of the year?

These six books are all on my TBR list and I’m hoping to read a few of them when I’m on holiday next month.

I hope you’ve all had a great reading year so far and that the next six months are even better.

Your photos are so pretty! I’m doing this tag on Saturday, but my post isn’t as attractive as yours. I hope you love A Darker Shade of Magic! It’s one of my favorites.

I just finished Strange the Dreamer and now can’t wait to read Muse of Nightmares when it’s released! I also really want to read The Poppy War this year too.

It’s a brilliant book for reading around Christmas too. The seed beads end up covering my floor for days afterwards. I can never clean them up properly!
