Mid-Year Freak-Out Book Tag
After seeing this tag featured on Sometimes Leelynn Reads, I remembered it’s that time of year again when bloggers all seem to take part in the mid-year freak-out book tag. So here we go…
Best book I’ve read so far in 2020
There were three books I’ve absolutely adored this year: Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens, The Empire of Gold by S.A. Chakraborty, and The Beautiful Ones by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. If I have to pick one, then I’ll go with The Beautiful Ones.
Aurora Burning by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff was an incredible sequel that left me desperate for the next book.
A new release I haven’t read yet but I’m really excited about
I’m really looking forward to reading Stormblood by Jeremy Szal.
Most anticipated release for the second half of 2020
I think I’m going with Lightbringer by Claire Legrand for this one. I’m so excited to read the final book in this fantastic series.
I was so sure I’d love Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco but I just didn’t connect with it.
The Witchlands series by Susan Dennard definitely surprised me with how fantastic it is. An underhyped series that deserves so much more love.
Favourite new-to-me or debut author
I have to go with Emma Mills for this one as she’s been the perfect antidote to the mess of 2020.
Favourite fictional crush
Zaf from Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert is the cutest cinnamon-roll ever. He even reads romance novels for escapism.
New favourite character
Katsu the mechanical octopus from The Watchmaker of Filigree Street is definitely a character that stole my heart.
A book that made me cry
I think the only book that’s made me cry this year was Rilla of Ingleside which is set during the First World War.
A book that made me happy
The well-written and adorable w|w romance in Queen of Coin and Whispers by Helen Corcoran made me so happy.
Favourite book to movie/TV show of the year so far
I haven’t watched any adaptations this year but I don’t think any adaptation will ever beat Good Omens so I’m giving the same answer as last year. I do plan to watch Normal People and Little Fires Everywhere though.
Favourite post I’ve written this year
Most beautiful book I’ve bought in the first half of 2020
One of the prettiest books I’ve bought this year was the Owlcrate edition of Heart of Flames by Nicki Pau Preto.
6 books I want to read by the end of the year
I have so many books on my TBR pile but these six are ones I definitely plan to read before the end of the year.
Feel free to consider yourself tagged if you’d like to take part. I hope you’ve had a great reading year so far!
