Six for Sunday: Books and the Seaside

#SixforSunday is hosted by Steph at A Little But A Lot and you can find the upcoming prompts for the second half of the year here.

The prompts for July are themed around summer reads and today’s choice is books and the seaside. I’ve decided to go with books set by the sea or that incorporate the sea in a big way.

The Scorpio Races

The Scorpio Races

by Maggie Stiefvater

One of my top 5 favourite books of all time. Set on the island of Thisby, the ocean and its water horses form the backbone of the story.

Summer of Salt by Katrina Leno

Summer of Salt

by Katrina Leno

Set on an island called By-the-Sea, this is an utterly magical read that is also heartbreaking at times.

Jamaica Inn by Daphne du Maurier

Jamaica Inn

by Daphne du Maurier

My love of Cornwall and its smuggling history is all thanks to Daphne du Maurier. One day I’d love to visit some of the stunning coves.

Summer Bird Blue by Akemi Dawn Bowman

Summer Bird Blue

by Akemi Dawn Bowman

The story is set in Hawaii and the ocean plays a big part in Rumi’s grieving process and new friendship group.

Viper by Bex Hogan

by Bex Hogan

I seem to have recommended this book frequently this year but it’s such a fun-filled pirate adventure set around twelve islands.

Teeth by Hannah Moskowitz

by Hannah Moskowitz

I can’t even describe this book as it’s so strange yet perfect. However, it’s set on a remote magic island with a gay merman/fishboy.

Any books you’d add to this list? Have you read any of the ones I’ve chosen?
